About Department

The random and inexplicable nature of today's crime require a new approach to deal with it and provide factual assistance to the criminal justice system. A proper approach towards crime detection and its prevention can be offered by the study of different aspects of Forensic Science. It is a multidisciplinary field which not only uses scientific methods but also involves study of current crime trends, technology related crimes, human psychology and thorough study of law. The main objective of the Department is to create students more skilled and capable to deal with the actual crime scenarios. To develop high level reasoning skills in order to put different elements of crime together and provide a conclusive opinion in criminal justice system. Different courses provided by the Forensic Science Department will generate trained expertise in various agencies related to crime detection such as Police investigation, State and Central Forensic Laboratories, mass communication and journalism, various private laboratories and detective agencies. The curriculum provides the educational standards that meet global standards in the field of Forensic Science.

The department is having 04 regular teaching faculties and 06 Ad-hoc faculties in the capacity of Assistant Professors. The reputation of any academic institute is confined to the qualities of its faculties, the department is bigheaded to have highly qualified and acclaimed faculty members.

Presently the department is running 3 years B.Sc. (Hon's) in Forensic Science and 2 years M.Sc. in Forensic Science. The department offers specialization in Forensic Biology & Serology including DNA Forensics Forensic Medicine, Chemistry and Toxicology Questioned Documents &Fingerprint Examination Cyber Forensics.

To produce forensic scientists / experts of international repute having excellent analytical and critical thinking along with the spirit to work in a team and ethical behaviour who can serve the Nation tirelessly for the welfare of mankind.

MODULE

The subject is designed to introduce the concepts, disciplines and principles of the forensic sciences in their application to modern forensics. Topics include the history of forensic science, an overview of the commonly utilized scientific disciplines (e.g. forensic biology, odontology, anthropology, toxicology, chemistry, psychology, document examination, ballistics, computer forensic, Voice, image & video analysis and crime scene management etc.), the use and implications of forensic databases, ethical issues and legislation, the skills involved in scientific analysis (observation, interpretation, record keeping, report writing, expert testimony), accreditation procedures and quality assurance.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

There is enough scope for career growth in government and Private Sector in India and abroad. The main employment generating areas of students of forensic sciences in government sector are Law enforcing agenesis such as NIA (National Investigation Agency), CBI (Center Bureau of Investigation), IB (Intelligence Bureau), central/state police departments, CFSL (Centre Forensic Science Laboratory), SFSL (State Forensic Science Laboratory), Hospitals, Banks, Universities Defence/Army, Quality Control Bureau, Narcotics Department, judicial services, forest and wild life departments etc; and in the private, sectors are security agencies, Banks, multinationals, Detective Agencies, Media, Insurance Companies consultants in industry &free-lance consultants/private practitioner, Law Firms and Hospitals etc.

In addition to the above medical examiner, crime laboratory analyst, Fraud Examiner, Environment Analyst, crime scene examiners, Forensic Psychologist, Genetics Experts, forensic engineers are the job prospects in abroad. Forensic scientists also work for making psychological profiles of offenders by analysing the crime scene and the crimes committed.
